Should I use the usb port and iPod controls or get RCA to aux adapters for best quality?

2023.06.06 14:43 McStizly Should I use the usb port and iPod controls or get RCA to aux adapters for best quality?

I just set up my first home stereo system outside of powered speakers hooked up to a turn table.
Equipment:
Pioneer VSX 70 AV receiver (bought for 45 dollars)
Two Cerwin Vega D3 speakers (100 plus 30 refoam kit)
I’m currently just plugged through an iPhone cable into the USB port and iPod control button. Should I use the stereo input with RCA cables instead? When I use iPod controls I can’t adjust anything on the receiver. I’m not really an audiophile but I appreciate any benefits I can give myself on a budget.

2023.06.06 14:40 girl_from_the_crypt Stuck on earth and looking for a job: We're burning down a dollhouse

When somebody suggests you commit arson together, your reaction is most likely to differ based on the identity of that person. If anyone else had asked me to come along to burn down a building, I would have assumed it was a joke. However, being aware of Frankie Preston’s barely suppressed murderous tendencies made me take his request quite seriously. Of course, three main questions presented themselves upon first consideration.
“What building?”
“A small developmental factory owned by FunFlair.”
“Do you plan on burning it while there are still people inside?”
“Only one, and that one deserves to burn alive.”
Shelving my thoughts on that answer for the moment, I inquired as to when he was hoping to go about this endeavor.
“The sooner the better. My sister—you haven’t met her—found out that they’re going to move sites in the near future, so if I want to take revenge on my old boss easily, I need to do it now. It won’t be too difficult. I know the layout of the place really well, they can’t have changed much these last three years. It’s small, hidden but unprotected. A bunch of containers in some woods a couple hours from here. The human I hate most in the entire world is there, every night, working all alone.” His shoulders twitched. “I drove by the place a couple times, and I kept thinking about doing it, but I was too scared. Having you there would make all the difference.”
“It would?” I echoed.
“Yes! Sunshine, you’re strong. Amazingly so. I don’t want you to feel like I’m using you, but the thing is, I can’t do this on my own. If you tell me to go away and never mention this again, I will. That I swear to God. Or whatever sadistic omnipotent being has put me on this world to suffer.” He briefly glanced heavenward, or rather at the ceiling, then back at me. “I can’t hurt anybody, remember?”
I nodded along slowly. “This person, your old boss… what did they do to you?”
“Simply put, she’s why I hate everything.” He spoke with an uncanny intensity, staring past me like he was miles away.
“Who is she?”
“Her name is Philomena Wallis. She’s the one who keeps sending people after me. She wants me back to do fuck knows what to me because she's still pissed I screwed her over." He paused. "She did—does horrible things. You'd want her dead, too."
"Why isn't she in prison?"
"Nobody gets taken to prison if they're rich enough. Either way, what she does isn't technically illegal… and no one knows about it either. It's a tricky situation."
I took a deep breath. “Do you have a plan?”
“I do. We’ll go there at night, I’ll slip in and make sure the door to Phil’s workspace is locked, and then we’ll douse the whole thing in gasoline.”
“Are you sure you’ll need me for that? It doesn’t sound like you’d be inflicting hurt directly. I mean, you wouldn’t have to actually raise a hand to your boss, not physically. Or can you not do that either?”
“The risk lies rather within what could happen if she finds me.” He rubbed his arm, a look of uncertainty crossing his features. “I’m different when I’m around her. I can’t help it, she… she can just walk all over me. She made me be this way. There’s nothing to be done about it, except to get rid of her once and for all.”
“I’m not following. She made you be this way? What do you mean?”
“Exactly what I said!” he snapped, only to shrink back and raise his hands. “Sorry! I’m so sorry!”
I stared at him in silence for a beat. “You’re terrified,” I said.
He glanced at his chucks, then back at me, looking like he wanted to say something but didn’t know what.
“Sad, too,” I added. “Sometimes, I can’t tell what you think, so I apologize if I’m reading this wrong…”
“You shouldn’t have to guess what’s going on inside my head anyways,” he muttered. “I can’t believe what I’m trying to rope you into again. It’s like I didn’t hear myself talk for a minute there.”
“I’ll help you.”
He raised a skeptical brow. “I don’t want to force you. I swear I don’t. I will do this, and I’d feel so much better if you came with, but if this is something you’re gonna resent me for in the long run…”
“The long run?”
“I mean—” He started playing with his gum again. “Are we not doing this? You really like me, I think?”
I think we shouldn’t be talking about this in the same breath as committing lethal arson.” I rubbed my nose before letting go of a long breath. “If I can’t stop you from doing this, I’ll at least make sure you come back out in one piece.” I wonder if this is how Nettie Peterson usually feels.
Frankie beamed. “You will? You’re absolutely sure?”
“Yes. Here’s the plan, I drop off what I bought for my savior human and then we can prepare; do what’s needed. I don’t want to put this off. The sooner it’s over, the better.”
“Definitely,” he agreed with an eager nod. “I’ll drive you right over.”
“Good. And Frankie… you know precisely how I feel about you.”
We got on our way the following morning. The car ride lasted several hours, most of which I spent fast asleep stretched out on the backseat. It was a wonderful nap; I hardly felt any of the vehicle’s movements, admittedly a credit to the server’s abilities as a driver. Eventually, the road was getting too bumpy to ignore, and I drowsily lifted my head to find us pulling onto heavily wooded terrain. Upon noticing I was awake, Fran gave me a fleeting, quite obviously forced smile. After a few more minutes, we came to a halt on a clearing. I got out and produced a canister of gasoline from the trunk, handing it to Fran after opening the door for him. He looked strangely absent, gazing off into the distance with a vacant look in his eyes. He grabbed the offered canister and clutched it to his chest, almost like he was hugging it.
“We’ll be going the rest of the way on foot, then?” I inquired.
He nodded wordlessly.
I couldn’t hide my frown. The air around us was warm and fragrant, the moonlight shining through between the branches that seemed to reach out for us as we began walking. There was not even a hint of a breeze, and yet, a chill ran down my spine. My companion’s demeanor was nothing short of uncomfortable; he seemed to suck the warmth out of the atmosphere around us, together with my initial confidence and the sweet scent of pine needles. His silence instilled in me a clammy sense of dread, and I couldn’t shake it no matter how hard I tried. Normally, I would have probably appreciated the perfect calm and serenity of the lush forest around us, but seeing him in such obvious, unspoken distress drove away all my idyllic thoughts.
“This seems like an odd place to hide a factory,” I remarked, trying to open a conversation once more.
“That’s the point. You wouldn’t go looking for a doll manufacturer in bum-fuck nowhere,” he replied.
“It’s strange to think about. What kind of shady stuff can a toy manufacturer even get up to? Don’t get me wrong, I trust you when you say they’re bad people, I just wish you’d give me a little more information. I feel like I’m not getting something here.”
He let out a low hum. “You… are really innocent.”
“No, I’m not,” I argued, affronted.
“Not in a bad way. I said innocent, not naive. I’ve been cagey again, I know that, but the thing is, you’ll see exactly what I was talking about when we get there. You’ll understand everything, and to be honest, I’m very afraid of what you’ll think once you do.”
We finally reached the building Fran had told me about. If it could indeed be called a building. It looked more like something that had been thrown together by a larva using Lego bricks. It was, as predicted, a bunch of containers lined up and stacked atop one another, small corridors and open metal staircases connecting them. It seemed to be almost entirely empty—all the lights were out, except for a single one. From behind a window on the upper floor, filtered through gray blinds, a cool, bright glow shone down upon us. It bathed Frankie in its surreal luminescence that seemed completely out of place given our raw, natural surroundings.
“You were right,” I stated, tearing him from his rigor. “Seems like there’s only one person in there.”
“That’s Phil,” he mumbled. “I’m certain.”
“Then let’s do this.”
Frankie detached himself from the canister, peeling it off his body like a piece of clothing. I took it from his hands while he walked over to the nearest door, reaching into his pocket to produce a set of shiny, slim tools. Despite the darkness, he set his fingers to work on the lock. It didn’t take long at all for him to let out a satisfied sound, straightening up as he held the now open door for me. “I’m very skilled at lockpicking,” he said lightly, by way of conversation.
I couldn’t hide the admiration in my gaze, and I gave him a proud smile that briefly caused his features to soften. I had not yet crossed the threshold when he grabbed me by the wrist, holding me back. “One more thing,” he whispered, his voice suddenly ringing desperate again, “you won’t like what we might see in there.”
“I know,” I answered. “It was implied.”
Stepping forth into the dark room, the smell of plastic and coffee instantly hit my nose. Fran fumbled for a lightswitch before thinking better of it and turning on the flashlight he’d brought. We were clearly in a breakroom; there was a table in the middle surrounded by chairs, an espresso machine in the corner and several calendars and posters taped to the walls. Unsuspecting. Frankie didn’t comment, immediately moving across the cube and towards the door on the other side. It led out into a small corridor, improvised using more corrugated iron elements, and into another larger container. There was a desk with a computer in one corner and an empty operating table in the center.
A large shelving unit occupied the entire left side of the room. A closer inspection revealed that it held all sorts of small parts, though what they were parts of was beyond me. Opening the plastic drawers at random, I glimpsed all sorts of metallic and silicone pieces, forming strange little… thingies.
“What is all this?” I asked Frankie.
He had been standing by the operating table, staring at it with unblinking eyes. His expression was once more perfectly vacant. Not even his jaw was moving around his bubble gum. He didn’t look up, and for a minute, I wondered if he’d heard me at all. “Doll parts,” he suddenly answered, his voice lacking any inflection.
I frowned, picking up one of the tiny metallic objects and inspecting it closely. I could see what he meant now—it appeared to be a very small joint, perhaps for a finger. “When you said FunFlair made dolls, I thought you meant these stiff little baby dolls. I didn’t know they made them this detailed.”
“Oh, they can be detailed alright.”
“Is this, like, a robotics thing? Can they move on their own, too?”
Frankie let out a sharp, mirthless laugh that was much too short. He fell completely silent again, and it felt as though the room had gotten colder. I bit my lip, placing the finger joint back in its box. I tentatively reached out to Fran and rested a hand on his upper arm, only for him to flinch, drawing away as if burned. “D-don’t touch me right now,” he pleaded.
“I’m sorry,” I breathed.
“No, I am. Don’t mind me, okay? Let’s—let’s just go on.”
So we did. Another makeshift corridor led us over into the next container. The beam of our flashlight cut through the darkness, revealing a sight that made me stop in my tracks. There were several bodies propped up in the corners of the room, bodies that I only realized on second glance were artificial. They were of roughly the same size as the average person, with fully formed arms, legs and everything. Their faces however were different. Most of them weren’t even fully complete, the skin-like material not fully covering their heads and leaving the mechanical structures underneath uncovered. Their eyeballs—sitting in hard plastic sockets and unframed by lids—stared out at us blankly, utterly void and expressionless.
Cold dread began to seep into my bones, paralyzing me for a second before I managed to break from my stillness. Taking a step towards one of the lifeless figures, I bent down to get a closer look. Keeping my distance, I reached out a single finger to trace along one of the countless delicate wires peeking out from the soft patches of facial material. It was cool to the touch, making my skin crawl. I pulled back, turning to Frankie in bewilderment. “Wh-what is all this?” I asked hesitantly.
“That’s them. That’s the dolls.”
“Well, yes, I can see that but this… this is really, really unnerving.”
He let out a strangled, mournful sound. “I guess it is,” he said eventually, his voice low and flat. He knelt down beside me, a little closer to the doll, and started fumbling around with the back of its neck, clearly looking for something. Finally, I heard a little click, followed by a whirring noise as the doll jerked up its arm. I squeaked, scrambling back on my hands and rear, only to find my back suddenly pressed up against the chest of another mannequin. I hadn’t done a thing, but it instantly sprang to life; robotic fingers clamping down around both sides of my nape. The painfully fierce touch wiped away every last bit of my composure, and I let out a shriek that seemed to tear apart the relative silence. Frankie spun around to fix me with the beam of his flashlight, causing me to squeeze my eyes shut. My heart was hammering against my ribcage, seemingly exploding when the hands started pulling me closer against the lifeless, yet animate body.
The next thing I knew was that Fran had leapt forward and removed me from the doll’s clutches with one swift, powerful yank. My chest was heaving and I couldn’t suppress a low whimper when I pressed myself to his side, frantically glancing about my surroundings. My fangs were bared, but my racing pulse was admittedly overtaxing me. I couldn’t seem to form any coherent thoughts. My flight-instinct was kicking in, further setting off my panicked response when I realized I might end up involuntarily jumping dimensions again.
Suddenly, I felt Frankie’s hand on my cheek, the gentle pressure tilting my head up to make me meet his gaze. “It’s alright,” he said, his voice equal parts firm and understanding. The fog in my head lifted just a little.
“They’re not going to hurt you,” he went on, his thumb stroking the curve of my outer ear. However he managed to convey such certainty when he himself had been so uneasy mere moments ago was beyond me, and yet, I found myself believing him. My breathing slowed and I hazarded a second glance at the doll I had bumped into.
It had stopped moving, its body having locked into an unnatural, almost feral-looking position. It was cowering on all fours, its torso lowered and its head up. Its neck was bent at such an extreme angle that it was approaching the comical.
“What the fuck was that?” I whispered, the curse word escaping me before I could stop myself.
“Some of them have to be activated manually, others can be turned on just by touch. I remember that,” Frankie replied. “There’s no need to be afraid of them, though. Even if it’s hard to believe considering… well.” He gestured at the oddly crouching doll at our feet.
“Something’s very wrong here,” I muttered, unable to tear my eyes off the lifeless, incomplete face. “I didn’t even know they made toys like that.”
“They’re not for children,” Frankie said, his eyes glazing over once more.
“Are they, like, robots? Do they know what they’re doing?”
“Not if they’re lucky, they don’t.” He paused. “They’re not made to think. Any awareness they might have would be unplanned for.”
“And you really used to work here? Did you help build them?”
“We can talk about that once we’re out of here.”
I swallowed. “Look, I’m freaking out. This can’t be a normal production site.”
“It’s not. I wish you didn’t have to see this. It… it only gets worse. And your instincts aren’t failing you, none of this is right. If you want to back out, I don’t blame you. This place shouldn’t exist.”
I took a deep breath. I wished I had insisted on knowing the full truth before coming here, but it couldn’t be helped now. Instead of prying further, I pointed at the canister of gasoline. “Then let’s remedy that.”
Despite himself, Frankie smiled.
Instead of mirroring the expression, I felt my own features suddenly derail. “Oh crap.”
“What is it?”
“Do you think she heard me scream?”

2023.06.06 14:30 AutoModerator Wildcard Tuesday: Shreddit's Off Topic Discussion and REC Center -- June 06, 2023

Greetings from your AVTOMOD. I am very happy to welcome back our Off Topic discussion thread and REC center. This thread is designed to foster community from regulars and lurkers and possibly get more people to participate, as we realize that it's awkward being the person who talks about car repair in the daily discussion thread when everyone else is talking about metal. So we are bringing this back as an experiment to gauge interest and see how it fairs.

**OFF TOPIC DISCUSSION**

Any kind of discussion is welcome here as long as it follows the general guidelines of being decent and civilized. Talk about anything you'd like whether it be something going in with your life or a particular book, tv show or movie you want to discuss.

**OFF TOPIC REC**

You may be asking "Why not just go to other music subs to get those recs?" Great question Steve. We think for people who have spent a considerable tiem here that certain users will be known for their knowledge and taste when it comes to metal. This would perhaps lend itself to a sense of trust when it comes to recommending non metal. Additionally, like mentioned before, finding other connections between users strengthens relationships and empowers synergy to a collective acumen. The goal here, like any other thread, is to help other people find new music whether it is metal or hip hop, new or old, on obscure 78 or on spotify. We all love music and probably talk about it too much compared to our peers so lets get even more strange and have more things we can only talk about to strangers on the internet.

What should be listing price for Taycan
I am trying to sell my 2022 Taycan base model, which currently has 3,000 miles on it. I have decided not to take it to the dealer or Carmax for selling purposes. I was wondering if you could suggest the best platform to sell it and provide an estimate of the price. Below, you can find some of the car's features:
Exterior Color: Jet Black Metallic Interior: Black/Bordeaux Red Leather Porsche Crest on Headrests (Front) 20" Taycan Turbo Aero Wheels Power Folding Exterior Mirrors Lane Change Assist (LCA) BOSE® Surround Sound System Passenger Display Surround View Additionally, I'd like to mention that the car has been diligently kept in a garage and has ceramic coding applied.
FYI I am in U.S
Thanks

2023.06.06 14:25 Sybernova11 Disneyland/sea Observations/Report - June 5 and 6, 2023

A few things from my stay: Tokyo Disneyland Hotel - beautiful. Everything is clean and amazing. Highly recommend staying here if you can. The short walk to the front entrance is unbeatable.
June 5- Tokyo Disneyland -I arrived to the security line at about 7:15 and there was a pretty long line already there ahead. Most people were sitting while waiting so maybe bring something soft to sit on for entry waits and parades? -Employees asked people to not run at park open. They proceeded to run whenever they passed the employees lol -volume on all rides is on the loud side so prepare accordingly for those sensitive to loud sounds. -people WILL just walk right in front of you, no "excuse me" no "oh sorry". Just, walk right past and in front of you on the way to rides (note: we were power walking so its not like we were going slow) -book it STRAIGHT to the beauty and the beast ride. Prepare elbows if needed. It's easily the best dark ride Disney has ever made. Speakers were well hidden, scenery and music was amazing and each "scene" didn't clearly show where you were going next. I remember always thinking "where is the next room?" but it was always themed so well you couldn't tell. -poohs hunny hunt is cute and enjoyable. The bounce scene is my favorite part. -monsters Inc ride was enjoyable. The competitive part of me wishes they had some score or indicator who had the most flashlight reveals/points but still very great fun for all ages. -the staff were all proficient enough at English to help us out with ordering or paying anywhere on property. Most just knew to speak English by looking at us -my capital one venture credit card worked just fine through the park. Even the food carts accept card -papago app helped a lot with non-english menus -at most food places, there is a "pre-order" person that writes down your order on a paper that you take to the register to pay/receive your food. The paper has English on it so you could always just point to the paper if there is a communication issue. They get food VERY fast at all locations and are super nice. -people show up EARLY to stake a spot for parades(like, 2 hours). They are very worth it so consider setting up a bit earlier than you would think to get a good view. Don't panic if you are behind an umbrella, people put them away right before the show. The show music WILL get stuck in your head. -Plazma Ray's and Tomorrowland Terrace have outdoor seating areas that offer shade and a GREAT view of the parade thats out of the heat (hint hint). Get there early if you plan on viewing there. They also have AC inside so it's a great easy resting spot. -most food locations have a free water station with small cups next to them, so don't fear on the water front (you can refill your own containers too) -people straight up brought food and drinks through security. If you need a snack or morning coffee they will just let you take it in if its in the bag going through the security scanner (note: "officially" you are not supposed to, but...) -the pirates and haunted mansion rides seemed to have more "empty space" between scenes than the American counterparts but maybe I am remembering wrong.
June 6- Tokyo Disneysea -there are two security and ticket areas (north and south). If you have the early access pass, when exiting the disney resort line gates, GO LEFT to the Northern lot area (towards miracosta hotel if you follow the signs). There are no signs that tell you early access is this way and its not printed on the ticket. After going left to the security gates, go to the VERY FAR lane and be sure to line up early. Again, there were ZERO signs telling us this and we waited an hour on the wrong side just to see people on the opposite security side entering, and we had to ask a cast member where to go. By the time we got over there into the correct line, it was already enormous with every school child in a 70 km radius in the line. At that point, they were letting in everyone else before we even got to the security check point, making the whole point of the ticket moot. Morale of the story: GO LEFT -the line for soarin' was astronomical by the time we got in and never let up at any point in the day. -we went to journey to the center of the earth first and it was a walk on DESPITE our blunder at security. It was fun, but could be a bit intense for younger ones since it was very loud and had some scary animatronics. I also didn't expect it to be as short as it was. Enjoyable but a very quick ride. -20,000 leagues opened right at 9 and a short line already formed before open. -the seashell ice cream is sold at a large number of ice cream stands throughout the park for 400 yen (about 2.50 usd) It is very cute and yummy without being overly filling. Great for a small snack and photo-op. -Sinbad ride was cute and enjoyable. Similar to it's a small world but more of a storyline. -go in the single rider line for Indiana Jones. It saves a lot of time and there's a small chance you might wind up in the same car as your party anyway -Indiana Jones ride has incredibly comfortable seats? Weird detail but they were super nice lol -curry popcorn from the arabian coast cart is amazing. That and honey popcorn were our favorites. They are both sold in Disneyland as well -creme Brulee churro is amazing. Sushi roll at Port of discovery was a hard pass from us but YMMV -the Nemo ride was a slightly less intense star tours but enjoyable. -the afternoon show has similathe same music as the Disneyland afternoon parade. It's just the characters dancing on a boat so it's an easy skip if you would rather ride more rides.
Feel free to ask any questions if you have any.

BOTHELL, WA / ACCESSWIRE / June 6, 2023 / E-Cite Motors Group, (OTC:VAPR) a privately held subsidiary of VaporBrands International, Inc. has released terms of it's planned offering as filed with the S.E.C. which will allow the general public to invest directly into E-Cite Motors L.L.C. for the purpose of financing the manufacturing of its production vehicles expected to be in its dealership showroom Q4 2023.
The offering is expected to go live on June 15th, 2023, and significant bonuses are being offered to both early and large investors. The offering under the valuation is limited to $1,235,000 which once reached, the valuation is expected to increase significantly.
The offer is for Common Membership Units in Ecite Motors, L.L.C. and are priced at $2.50 per unit.
For more information and a detailed description of the Bonus Units, and Perks, visit www.ecitemotors.com/what-if
Direct links to the offering will be provided once it is open to the public which is expected on June 15th, 2023.
Gene Langmesser E-Cite COO stated: "We are ready to begin production of both the EV-GT and our truck. We are thankful to all of our supporters and are glad to be able to give the general public a way to invest and share in our success."
Last week E-Cite announced that it has received a pre-money valuation of Seventy-Five Million Dollars for the purpose of raising money for the manufacture of its production vehicles. The valuation was ratified in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (Form C) This valuation was reached following E-Cite becoming the first vehicle manufacture under the Low Volume Manufacturers Act to receive approval from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to proceed with the certification process that will allow it to manufacture and sell new EV vehicles in all 50 states.
Previously E-cite was also the first company to get any vehicle approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of which is has three distinctly different vehicles approved. This allows E-Cite to produce its own VINs for production of new vehicles. In addition, E-Cite was the first to receive a World Manufactures Identifier (WMI) registering it as a manufacture for the sale of vehicles worldwide.
In anticipation that E-Cite's prototype vehicle will become certified as a zero emissions compliant vehicle by CARB making it legal for sale in all 50 states, E-Cite is moving forward with its plan to begin manufacturing of its production vehicles. It is expected that all certifications will be completed in time for E-Cites launch of its production vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2023.
As this was the first time in history that a manufacture had reached the point of applying for certification from CARB under the Act, and there was no process in place to do so, E-Cite has worked closely with CARB while they defined the process, paving the way for future vehicles to go through the certification process.
Note\ E-Cite's vehicles are in no way categorized as "Kit Cars" as they are manufactured new vehicles.*

2023.06.06 13:50 Urungulu BA Dread - Lib, or DC?

Hey guys! I already have a cool, metal Furioso and got the plastic kit to build. I was dead serious on building the Librarian variant, but seeing what’s being done with psychic powers I’m not sure anymore.
I know we don’t have the datasheets yet, but what would you build? People are already thinking about twin-linked Talons with hit rerolls on the DC Dread, so I think it might be the better option. I already have Mephiston, pre-Mephiston (Calistarius Termie Lib from Space Hulk), the old BA Termie Lib and will have the new Lib from Leviathan, so I think I have the psychic field covered 😂
With powers gone, the Wings of Sanguinius flying cannonball Dread will propably be gone. What’s your thoughts?

2023.06.06 13:47 phaattiee Thoughts on Skull-Port side quest for my players.

I'm running Misker as an old Beholder mage who resorted to magic as he began losing his natural eyestalk powers to old-age. He's hold up in his 3 story mansion since the Xanathar took over that can only be accessed by collecting 3 keys that can be found in each of his 3 warehouses. Needless to say the warehouses are going to contain some obscure puzzles and booby traps. Misker put out a notice at the Heralds meet years ago claiming that any that are worthy of challenging him for ownership of what's left of his empire must first succeed in finding the keys. Which Isn't a whole lot since its been at least 20 years since anyone last saw or heard from him most of his empire has disbanded or been absorbed my the Xanathar. The warehouses will contain ample reward for the players along the way as well as the deeds to an old rundown pub (Trollskull Tavern). Here are my ideas for the warehouses, any thoughts and feedback is much appreciated, the vibe is harry-potter goblet of fire tasks.
Warehouse 1.
Once the party enter the warehouse via finesse or brute force at first glance it will be filled with ordinary stored contraband, silks, metals (not precious), maybe some simple weaponry, tools, rope, canvas for ship sails etc... general goods nothing too fascinating... canvas sheets cover most of the boxes with a couple decades worth or dust sitting on top, they'll notice a small stone pedestal in the centre of the room, perched on which is a modified "bear trap" with one of the skeleton keys perched within. If the players investigate they'll find that it is booby trapped to go off once the key is removed... for the rogue easy peasy... if they successfully disarm and remove the key however this will trigger the stereotypical "bear trap" in which an owl bear is summoned directly above the player with the key... queue Professor Lupin boggart theme music (or similar) coming from a nearby record player... the owl bear lands for bludgeoning damage, Dex saves are rolled, initiative is rolled. However the key is also cursed to affect whoever is in the room with Bane, saves rolled once then and every hour there forth until the curse is removed or dispelled from the key. Throughout the fight with the Owl-bear, petrified goblin garden gnomes hidden throughout the warehouse will (as a reaction) cast vicious mockery on the players every-time they attempt to attack something in a whiney irish accent "you couldn't hit the floor if you fell over". Think of the gnomes from Fable, this will be a running theme. Finding and Destroying the Gnomes ends the effect. On completion the players will attempt to leave from whence they came if they dont try to leave sooner. On doing so if they leave through the doors they came (the only legitimate way in or out), they'll get sucked in momentarily to a demi plane (Feywild), a lush glade with a large willow tree in the centre, above the door one of the gnomes says "You'll think twice about going back through there" with the idea being if they were to return back through the doors they would end up back on the streets of Skull-Port a cheeky clue/bluff. Successful Perception checks from a distance will show a hidden passage at the base of the willow tree trunk. any attempt to get close though will result in them getting "Whomped!". the tonal shift from sunny flowery glade will then go full prisoner of Azkaban showing decade old skeletons tangled up in vines around the glade. The terrain is considered difficult and the players have to roll against being grappled at the beginning of each turn whilst fending off Whomps from the willow. If they make it to the secret passage beneath the tree this will conclude the puzzle resulting in a moderate amount of Booty and plunder.
Warehouse 2.
Same jist only this time its a key in a Bowl of Sand, just as a player is about to touch it the key sinks into the sand and the ground turns to quicksand, the sand reaches up engulfing the players arm (roll against grapple) as a Sand elemental (Statblock will be a combination of Earth and Water elementals combining the burrow and whelm abilities) starts to form around the bowl and pedestal. This time they have to roll twice against the bane effect from this key and the other in their possession (If they haven't dispelled or removed the curse from the first one) and the penalty will increase to a d6. no Gnomes this time though as it might be a bit harsh idk let me know. Initiative starts they'll soon find that the best they can do is keep the elemental at bay for a round if they deal enough damage in one combat round, the abundance of sand pretty much makes it invincible. The answer will be to let themselves get sucked down beneath the sand to a room below. Insert Harry potter chess game with petrified adventurers as pieces/constructs that have attempted Miskers challenge in the past... the key now hangs around the neck of the king. A game of chess ensues (I'm 1700-1800 rated so it wont be a walk in the park for them). Everytime they wish to take a piece or be taken a single round of combat will take place between the player and the constructs Stat blocks to be made still until they are subsequently defeated. This is only the case for the players normal chess rules apply for all the other pieces for the sake of time. If they attempt to break the rules, all the constructs will attack them at once. Misker is actually watching them through a scrying eye gem stone on the far side of the wall and controlling his pieces at this point. Once they get a hold of the key they will be teleported out of the room into a seperate hidden warehouse in Skullport that has some BOOTY and loot. A cheat is to ignore the game of chess and go straight for the key, with no conceivable entrance or exit however they will probably feel required to play Miskers game before moving on.
Warehouse 3
Misker recruited a coven of Portal Hags that control the eb and flow of the underground water caverns via portals to the plane of water for this one.
The last Warehouse doesn't have anything in it other than a mirror in the centre of the room. on a close inspection. The mirror is almost liquid and metallic in appearance and touch. Above the mirror is a Goblin garden gnome, it speaks a riddle, the players answer correctly it lets them enter through the mirror... only when they reach the other side they are in an identical room... alone.
This part I will carry out in 1-1 sessions with the players...
The room is identical to the previous and has no ceiling and extends upwards indefinitely into darkness... metallic statues of adventurers are set in alcoves in the walls all with horrified looks on their faces (think Han solo frozen but as a statue not a slab). A metallic silhouette of themselves appears in the mirror, the gnome gives each of them a riddle that is tailored to their characters personality/backstory somehow. they have a 1 minute timer to answer, if they dont answer or answer incorrectly the metallic silhouette figure will lunge forth and attack them (identical stat-block to themselves), the task ends when they either answer the riddle correctly or defeat/are defeated by their reflection.
If they lose this battle they will start to feel a cold metallic liquid begin to engulf their body as they drift off into unconsciousness, their blurred vision will show the silhouette begin to fill with colour and material as though its fully becoming them, just as they close their eyes this dopple-ganger of themselves will step back through the mirror, this will be the last image their character see's as they step through the mirror.
I'm at odds how to continue the players character progression here my ideas are as follows, they roll a new character sheet and I RP their character as an agent of the Portal Hags or, they continue as their character only they are now tethered to the Hags as a sort of Warlock/Patron-Esque relationship, I know there are lots of controversial thoughts on forcing classes on players but they failed the task and effectively died or are in a cryogenically frozen state currently so if they want to continue as their character there need to be repercussions If not forced class levels it could be in the form of a curse binding them to the Portal Hags Coven etc IDK hit me with ideas.
When they step through the mirror finally im in two minds. Either they enter into Miskers Manse where they will have to fight the beholder as his thoughts are... only those that can defeat me are worthy of my Booty/Legacy... he wants to die fighting than of old age as old age is undignified for a beholder, The whole reason he resorted to magic was to try and become an undead beholder Lich but has come to the realisation that it is too late for him, the whole reason he set this game up is to have greedy adventurers and treasure hunters come to him to he can absorb their life essence and sustain his existence longer in the hopes of still becoming a Lich, part of his egomaniacal personality believes this is still possible whilst the other half, his more logical/genius pragmatic sort recognises the reality, and thus this whole process appeases both aspects of his personality.
I was thinking of running one more challenge as part of the 3rd warehouse, after stepping through the mirror I was thinking of having a final treasure room (where the bulk of Miskers loot is), that has a replicating item enchantment on it (Bellatrix Vault) only these turn into swarms of tiny mimics and raggamoffyn's. But this might be too much right before fighting Misker...
Go straight from fighting themselves to fighting misker? or collect the final key in the final vault and give them a chance to rest before then heading to Misker's Manse... They may need to be at full strength to fight a few century old Beholder pirate lord mage.
Thoughts? discussions? all constructive criticism welcome!

2023.06.06 13:36 FoxFallsFromYou On The Water

I got my call yesterday from the dealership stating that my car is now officially “on the water”
I find it baffling that it will still take almost 2 months to receive it. They said it should arrive July 28.
I looked online out of curiosity. The cargo ship only takes 11 days to get from Korea to Vancouver, and then it’s only a four day train ride to my general dealerships area.
Any insights on the timelines. Could they be sooner?
I understand there is sometimes a delay due to the port. Cut cut the court really delay it more a month or more?

2023.06.06 13:15 NightmareChameleon New War, Old Iron (4) (Reupload)

First. Previous.

A few folks reported last night's upload as turning up blank, likely due to a bug on reddit's end, so we're having another try with it. Let me know if this does or doesn't fix things.
Who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned M1?
The use of 1200 millimeter shells serves no strategic purpose for my opening and, tactically speaking, places me at a slight disadvantage than had I used any one of my other, more potent weapons.
Mmhmm, they do have their downsides. According to my weapon subsystem computer, I must now wait 4.421 seconds for the shells to traverse the distance between myself and my enemy. Such a stretch of time is, of course, a wholly inconsequential blip whose passing is less significant than the tiniest mote of dust in the vast and boundless lifespan of the universe in all considerable scenarios.
All considerable scenarios, of course, except for the possibility that one might find themselves under the effects of several time-dilating performance enhancement drugs.
Which I am.
I very much so am.
Of course, I'm nothing if not patient. To occupy the interval we find ourselves waiting, allow me now a brief tangent to preach the gospel of the combined 1200mm turret, targeting computer, and ordnance inventory computer, an old self-contained weapon system that bears the simple designation of “M1”:
The most foundational concept one must grasp about the M1 is that it is not an effective weapon as a simple matter of scale. While exceptions do exist, the simple nature of space means that larger warships face a rather generous economy of scale with regards to one’s ability to outgun and outweather any smaller adversaries. As is only natural, I am the most resplendent paradigm of this law, large enough to sit comfortably on the edge of what can be considered a planet and well-armored enough to ram one and win.
Ah, but you already knew that, didn’t you? Unlike the M1, one would be remiss not to both know of and be thinking about me constantly. I can say with full confidence that I practice what I preach, but once again I do digress.
As to be expected from a weapon originating in a period of time in which humanity’s warships were several orders of magnitude smaller than myself, these old holdovers certainly wear their years.
The M1 is not a good weapon system. Everything about it, down to the targeting computer’s ability to account for gravity-induced bullet drop and atmospheric drag, reflects its crude nature as something better suited for ancient oceanic warfare than space. The materials used in the gun barrels are impure, molecularly inconsistent alloys, the computer boards large and demanding. Its autoloaders are finicky and prone to jamming, and many of the targeting solutions fail to account for some of the more intricate corner cases one must account for in space combat.
In a perfect example of their obsolescence, we still have 2.721 seconds until the shells are expected to reach the enemy ships. Had I used my secondary armaments, a pair of megaMAC cannons that fire projectiles with diameters to rival cities, I would not have been able to complete a single sentence before the near luminal bolts would reduce the tightly bunched enemy crafts into little more than atomic smudges with the sheer kinetic energy they convey.
I have not fired my megaMAC cannons, however. I have fired my 1200mm multi-purpose M1s. This is because, for all their flaws, they are good weapons.
A weapon does not have a service life spanning multiple thousands of years without merit. As with similarly archaic, yet still used arms (such as the veritable M1, the timeless M1, and, of course, the M2), it has not survived for lack of redeeming qualities.
As a consequence of its age, there exists a truly staggering variety of ordnance that can be crammed into the M1’s barrels and lobbed at one’s enemies, all of which have been carefully cataloged in my mat-fab schematics to be produced at my leisure. This, however, is not even close to the reason why the M1 is such a good weapon. Much like everything else about the M1, the shells are woefully outdated, the primitive 5-meter long projectiles are slow, inaccurate, and easy to intercept.
However, the effects are quite pretty.
Yes! This is what makes the M1 such a good weapon system! The fact that it pleases me personally and nothing else! Unlike more advanced munitions, there exists a certain splendor to the inefficient explosive mixes that many of the shells employ.
For this sole redeeming quality, I employ the otherwise archaic, dilapidated, and useless weapon at every possible opportunity.
It is quite obvious that M1 was kept in active service for several million years for me and me alone to use their silly bullets. How thoughtful of them! To be blessed with perfect precognition and use it exclusively for such a noble goal as to lighten up the skirmishes I take part in that little additional amount!
Many people disagree with me, stating that no, the M1 was only installed on myself as an afterthought due to the sheer number of their surplus stocks still around at the time of my construction. They are, however, incorrect, as their opinions are at odds with my own (the more important perspective). At least two sailors who have served aboard me agree with the fact that the M1’s munitions are slightly prettier to watch than my other weapons’, cementing my stance as the sole correct one.
The projectiles I have selected to be the first things I’ve lobbed at another living thing in nearly fifty thousand years are none other than a personal favorite of mine: The KP-83, a nuclearly shaped penetrating shell that is capable of sending scalding lances of vaporized bismuth miles through warsteel. Like many other of the M1’s patterns, the shells are expensive, unreliable, illegal to use against organic targets, and, most of all, excessive.
And how salaciously, decadently excessive they are! I love them! To even think of violating the Atom, steadfast and revered, for such a mundane purpose as an upscaled APHE munition is absurd! Yes, friend, the KP-83 is a perfect expression of the absurd technological lengths humans will achieve for the sole purpose of killing, a potent statement of their sheer stubborn refusal to roll over and let The Enemy drive us to extinction, even in the nascent stages of interstellar exploration.
Less than a quarter second, now. I watch in eager anticipation as my shells close the final few kilometers towards The Enemy fleet.
More beautiful than a flower in bloom, more lucent than a sunrise, more radiant than a newborn’s first smile, the first nuclear explosion blossoms before the enemy fleet. The first are the shells detected and shot down by their point defenses, clearly detectable by the lances of vaporized bismuth that sear forward from the fireballs, yet the sewing pin-shaped detonations grow closer and closer until…
..contact! Blessed, rousing contact! My reward electrode buzzes with electricity, signifying multiple successful impacts with The Enemy’s ships.
As the ephemeral light fades, I take in the damage wrought. Whole swathes of The Enemy’s hull plating have been shattered and scorched where it was kissed by the nuclear fire, and I can pick out the brightly-glowing pinpricks of slag from where the lances of vaporized metal penetrated their alluring forms. The afflicted ships reel slightly before accelerating to correct, implying a dizzying blow.
Ha! What a joke! Had I not known better I would have assumed that they had been seriously maimed by the KP-83 shells, yet such a thing would imply flimsy, non-reinforced interiors, like those of a civilian craft! Clearly, this, too, must be some extension of the facade they so stubbornly uphold.
And yet…
And yet…
And yet, I haven’t even begun in earnest! I have a whole second until my volley connects. Whole gigabytes of munition spreadsheets and readiness data stream into my expanded consciousness as I pore over my options, considering what might make for the most efficient follow-up killing blow. Perhaps I should employ my primary weapon?
Ha! What a stupid question!
To even think that I would allow a conflict to end before it could even begin! I really must be going senile with age.
Why, anyone with even a modicum of common sense understands that war is art, and furthermore, that art takes time.
What possible harm could it do to prolong this skirmish by a few mere hours, or perhaps days? None, of course! It would be unbecoming of my eminence to be a bad sport in war by ending the conflict too early, after all.
The Enemy’s fleet becomes illuminated, if only for a second, by the muzzle flashes of their cannons as they attempt to emulate my opening volley. How laudatory! I’m flattered that they hold me in such high regard as to mimic my opening attack.
Why, I’m so impressed that I’ve begun to entertain the notion of allowing their shells to land on me as a statement of thanks. Such a thought is aborted, of course, the moment I realize such an attack could harm the beautiful luster of my paint. I shudder to even conceive of such a horrible fate.
Unfortunately for The Enemy’s crude emulations of my tactics, naval warfare no longer exists in the age of the broadside, nor has it for several millions of years. I spool up my short-range jump drives— all thirty two of the apartment-block sized mechanisms— prepare my drone bays, and order another volley of KP-83 shells to be loaded into my M1s.
The Enemy’s shells, accompanied by a wave of missiles, hurdle the final few kilometers towards my surface before they-
THOOM
-detonate, filling the empty space where I had been just a moment prior with nuclear explosions of the mundane variety.
Why tolerate a risk to my vanity when I could instead expend the charge in one of my jump drives to simply vanish from the area? Of course, positioning myself above them on the stellar plane is certainly a tangible side effect of preserving my good looks.
I elect to release a swarm of stiletto hunter-killer corvette drones as an opening move, supplemented with a volley of 320 anti-ship missiles and yet another volley of 1200 millimeter nuclear shaped charge shells.
Much like my previous volley, this provides little tactical advantage whatsoever, instead fulfilling the exalted role of entertaining me.
While agile, the apartment block-sized drones are woefully frail, occasionally dwarfed by some of The Enemy’s (historic) munitions. Still, they serve well as harassment and defense fodder for more worthwhile projectiles. The anti-ship missiles are fast, yet once again, their scale reserves them better to maiming and euthanizing already shattered craft. I have already spoken on my beloved 1200 mm cannons.
The Enemy are quick to turn themselves and loose another volley. Rather than attempt another short-range jump, I elect to yaw upward and accelerate away from the incoming projectiles.
Alas, the shells reach me before I can complete my maneuver. I ignore them even as they close in, opting to continue my acceleration.
Unopposed, The Enemy’s munitions hurdle towards my perfect hull before-
BRrRrRrRrRrRrRrRrRrRrRrRrT
-they pass the invisible threshold dictating the minimum engagement range for my point defense weapons and are swiftly obliterated by well-placed streams of 120 millimeter high impact rounds.
I did say I’d rather my paint go unmarred, did I not?
My anti-ship missiles are the first to arrive at The Enemy, honing greedily towards their still hot missile bays and cannon housings. They answer with interceptors of their own, yet the miserable defenses are neither fast nor potent enough to pose a worthy barrier to the entire volley of missiles. As the thirty two surviving hypersonic projectiles smash violently into The Enemy’s foremost craft, my drones warp into their formation and begin peppering their engines and sensory structures with their miniMAC emplacements.
The Enemy responds predictably, directing much of their fire, as well as every close-in weapon, into slaughtering the trespassing craft.
Just in time for the second volley of nuclear shaped charge shells to kiss The Enemy’s hulls unopposed. Two hundred and thirty seven shells successfully detonate, with one going off in the barrel (tragic, but unexpected with the finicky munition) and two experiencing failures of their fuze assemblies, exploding as dirty bombs.
How spectacular! How dazzling! A perfect display of timing, predictive acumen, and raw, unfettered talent by myself! How I’ve dearly missed the ability to demonstrate my impeccable skill!
My thoughts go hazy with euphoria as my reward system detects a successfully executed multi-step tactic and responds accordingly. I push against the incoherence, refusing to allow my concentration to wane for even an instant.
THOOM.
Having long completed my maneuver and weapon preparation, I allow my short-range jump drives to propel me in-line with The Enemy’s formation. Even before the exotic particles disperse from obfuscating my sensor data, I fire my conventional magnetic railguns, relying solely on my predictions to guide the projectiles.
Forty-eight railroad car-sized superluminal bolts of iron illuminate the void with their streaks as they tear through space, with thirty-one instantly shattering The Enemy’s ships with their absurd kinetic energy. I curse myself for my sloppiness, yet my MACs were not the reason for such a maneuver.
No, that honor would belong to my tertiary armaments: two truly titanic Gamma Ray emitters, placed in an over-under arrangement on my bow. Half an instant later, after my targeting sensors regain the clarity lost from my recent jump, the twin arrays activate.
Their wires thrum with unfathomable voltages as the emitters begin to exude their deadly radiation, the titanic servos emitting an audible whine as they threaten to give under the stress of pitching and yawing their sports field-sized lenses at absurd speeds, yet hold firmly.
Though the beam itself is invisible, even to my broadband sensors, the effects are quite the opposite. Crafts caught in the scything beam begin to shrivel and carbonize as their reflective hull coatings are overwhelmed, their interiors begin to slush as the metal making them up loses consistency.
Though it lasted only a second, the damage is immense with nearly every sufficiently small craft in their cone of fire burnt away instantaneously.
THOOM.
I jump once again.
Directly into the point blank trajectory of what I easily recognize to be a salted fission nuclear missile, courtesy of The Enemy.

2023.06.06 12:53 throwaway10015982 Taste The Waste

I had a sad realization that most of my adult life (approach thirty now) has been cleaning up after my parents, throwing their shit out and being inevitably blamed for their complete inability to keep their shit together. They have had so many fights because my mom's organizational strategy for everything is throwing it in a pile (which she insists is extremely methodical, but will never explain to me by what mechanism she is able to efficiently locate her items) which obviously disastrous when you need to find tax documents and what not.
My family is fucked up in some very subtle and insidious ways and I could go on and on and on about how much it sucks, but of all the absurdities I've been subjected to today probably takes the cake:
My mom criticized me for showering once or twice a day.
She was like (completely unprompted), "why the fuck are you always showering, this is why you have a cold, wasting water and shit, you don't need to be showering so much as if you were so dirty". Translate that into Spanish coming from an old Mexican woman that showers once a month. Keep in mind I exercise like crazy to manage my untreated (and undiagnosed) depression and the general psychic torment of living with a bunch of people who never mentally matured past the age of 12 and it's also a warm climate AND I also work a fairly physical job in retail so...
My mom be like: beating your severely disabled non verbal child with Downs Syndrome until they are crying so hard they can't even breathe and then being like, IDK lol I did nothing wrong.
The hoard has always been in between a 1 and a 2 (probably because of my lone efforts) but doing the housework of 4 other adults is starting to wear on my sanity and I cannot move out due to living in one of the most expensive regions on Earth. The house is falling into disrepair because no one but me wants to pitch in on even basic repairs (all of our door knobs have stripped internally due to my older brother cranking on them repeatedly when they're locked). There was one point where we had raw sewage explode out into the crawlspace of the house because my older brother (who makes 100k a year, more than my dad) refused to listen to me when I told him that our toilet issues were more than just a regular clog.
These people are complete assholes. I think they all might be hoarders to a degree because I tried to throw some of my younger brothers empty supermarket teaboxes and he was like "don't you have any sense of sentimental value?". My older brother (who I shit you not had a period of a year or two who would wear a fucking Nazi tank officers hat around the house) orders model kits almost every single day and just keeps piling up the boxes in the living room. My dad had (had because his current car is too small to haul stuff) a habit of picking up old furniture off the street and keeping it in the backyard forever. My mom obviously is the main source of hoard and is currently working on blocking off the main hallway with her junk necromancy. Despite being unemployed almost her entire life, she still manages to find junk. I don't even fucking know where from, I think we really just might have so much shit in the garage (we literally have almost every single thing we've ever owned going back to the 90's in the house) that short of me going apeshit and finally junking almost everything that she can just keep pulling new clutter into the main living areas.
I really had to get some of this off my chest, I've really been struggling with not turning myself into fertilizer (how awesome it would be to not be conscious ever again) for the last few months. Working 24-30 hours a week on top of a difficult STEM degree and all the assorted insanity that comes with having mentally ill/drug addicted family members wears on you. I likely won't live to fifty (I keep noticing grey hairs and I constantly feel horrible despite being in great shape) so it's painful realizing most of my life has been wasted trying to keep a clean house and endlessly grinding at shitty retail jobs.
I always tells my dad, "why do you spend $3200 a month to live in a shithole?". They never have an answer.

2023.06.06 12:51 JeshSpaghetti Need help figuring out how to fix left side lights on 2005 Chevy Aveo LS

Hello, I own a 2005 Chevy Aveo LS and recently came across a problem that doesn't seem to have an easy fix for an average car owner like myself. To put it simply, the tail light and front side marker light on the left side of the car won't work. The thing that makes this strange for me and really throws me for a loop is that the brake lights work completely fine. This only happened recently and have been fine for the 2 years that I've owned the vehicle.
To potentially fix this, I immediately went to my local autozone and got the bulbs necessary to replace my left rear lights. Taking a look at the old bulbs showed that they had some wear and tear but not burnt out or unusable. Still I installed the new ones, and the problem persisted. So obviously not the bulbs, I inspected the fuses of my car to see if one of them was blown, pulling out every single one of them due to the fact that I wasn't 100% sure which fuse would be responsible for my problem. Every one of my fuses had that metal piece in the middle still intact, but I understand they can still be faulty. So I swapped out some of the more worn down ones with my provided spares, even changing around some fuses amongst themselves to see if anything changed and nothing worked. Today I took apart my front left headlight to get access to the front left side marker light below it and inspected the bulbs with a continuity tester. Sure thing all bulbs were good to go, nothing looked like it was blocking or broke exposed wiring. And just like the rear tail light, when I use my left blinker the side marker lights come on and work exactly as intended. Only when I leave these lights on in their normal "default" state that they do not work.
I seriously have no idea what to do or where go next for this aside from seeing a professional. I still want to try and fix it myself though since I have the tools and time and its a nice learning experience, though if this something more advanced like broken or faulty internal circuitry, then I suppose I'll have to go get help. However any sort of insight and advice is greatly welcomed and I'll keep taking cracks at it and researching in the meantime.
TL;DR - left tail light wont work but turns on when I brake, and left side marker light doesn't shine but works when signaling. Tried replacing bulbs and checking fuses, not sure where to go from here.

2023.06.06 12:49 No-Toe-2789 What is the trouble free way to port 5 lines to T-Mobile?

I plan to port a family plan of 5 lines from Verizon to T-mobile this coming Sunday (6/11). All 5 lines are unlocked and I got transfer pin. I also have 5 T-mobile SIM cards they sent us. However, I am not sure exactly how to do it. I was told I can either call customer care or go to local T-mobile store to port number over.
5 of us live in 4 different locations. 2 of them don’t have a car. So it would be preferable if we can do it over the phone. We have never ported phone # and don’t know how the process works. It would be a huge headache if we run into any kind of trouble during the porting process. Most of us can’t live without a working cell phone for longer than an hour or so. I would really appreciate it if you can help me with the following questions: 1. Do we have everything we need now for porting the number over? 2. Is it better to do it over the phone or go to local T-mobile store? If you do it over the phone, do you need to have another phone (not the phone that number will be ported over) to call? 3. How long in average will it take to port the number over?
Thanks 🙏

2023.06.06 12:37 boutell New US CHAdeMO chargers in May 2023

Here are all of the new US CHAdeMO (Leaf fast-charging) stations that rolled out in May 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
There were 124 "new" CHAdeMOs added in May. To put it in perspective, there were 112 CCS chargers added in April. I think the pace of CHAdeMO rollout has stabilized, while the pace of CCS rollout is still increasing. This makes sense given that only Nissan still makes a CHAdeMO car.
Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the Alternative Fuels Data Center data.
We all know that CHAdeMO is a legacy format and will eventually go away, but clearly Nissan and their partners are continuing to support it for the time being. This shouldn't be surprising. After all, you can still buy a new Leaf.
If you'd like to know about new chargers along your routes right away, or reading these monthly reports is just frustrating in your state, I've set up a free service that provides email notifications only when new stations actually open. You can sign up at evpov.com. I built it to help EV owners like myself (especially my fellow Leaf owners). You can pick other plug types as well.

2023.06.06 12:32 boutell New US CCS chargers report for May 2023

Here are all of the new US CCS (Level 3 fast-charging) stations that rolled out in May 2023, according to the Department of Energy. These chargers are suitable for most new EVs on the market, except for:
  1. Tesla drivers who haven't bought the official CCS adapter yet. Certain older Teslas need additional work done to accept the adapter.
  2. Leaf owners like me, and some owners of older cars that also use CHAdeMO. If you drive a Leaf, or an older CHAdeMO car, see my matching post in leaf.
Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the Alternative Fuels Data Center data.
There were 222 CCS charge points added or refreshed in May 2023, which is up from 171 in April. For comparison, there were only 74 new CCS charge points in May 2022. Things are speeding up.
"What about CCS charging at Tesla superchargers?" Tesla is in the process of rolling out their "magic dock" for non-Tesla cars, but so far in very few locations. If they start doing this at scale and reporting it to the Alternative Fuels Data Center then it will be reflected here.
"What about Ford vehicles with NACS (Tesla) plugs?" They are not on sale yet. Current-generation Ford vehicles have CCS plugs. The next generation will have NACS (Tesla) plugs, but will also support CCS via an adapter.
If you'd like to know about new chargers along your routes right away, or just prefer not to check this list monthly when new openings are rare in your area, I've set up a free service that provides email notifications as soon as they open. You can sign up at evpov.com. Or not! I don't really have a business plan here, I built it to help EV owners like myself.
To streamline this post, multi-chargepoint locations are listed with the number of chargepoints first, so that's why the post is shorter than in previous months.

2023.06.06 12:24 psarimelemoni Drag me all across the village by my hair while I'm in my underwear, just wait for my family.

Warning i might do some grammar or other mistakes because English isn't my first language, please forgive me if i do so.I 13F live in a small Greek village where it's common that everyone knows everyone. It's very common to walk past some old ladies that will stop you and ask you how your parents are doing. Everyone knows everyone so you will for sure have atleast one member of your family being well known to the village. My village has 3 other villages literally the one next to eachother so it kinda makes them one very big village. Well we are very close to city which is near the coast and it's only about 10-15 minutes by car to get from the villages to the city. I went school in my village even if i live closer to the city. My grandmother lives close to the school so i would walk with my big brother to her house and will would wait till my mom was done with her work to come pick as up. We would stay at my grandmother's house in Saturday's and sometimes Fridays so will have time to be in the nature and close to our grandmother. So there was this girl, let's call her Olivia. Olivia was never liked by many people and in school she didn't have many friends. I was in the 90% of the people that didn't like her but i didn't do things to her like some other kids did. But somehow she thought that i liked her in that time. I was just about to finish kindergarten and it was a very hot summer day that i was staying in my grandmothers. I was five i think or so and this girl would always come to my house wake me up if i was sleeping and getting me out to play with her because no-one was gonna play with her. Well the night that had past was way to hot so i slept in my underwear. So Olivia came as always, but she came a little more early that day. It was about 8 am. She would constantly come around 9:30 am so she would wake me up to go play. My grandmother told her thay i was sleeping and she should go away and come back later. She refused and said that we had talked about it and that we would go and play in my front yard. Clearly we never said that and she just didn't have some to play with. So my grandmother said to her to not wake me up because i was sleeping and she didn't again listen to her. Now my grandmother is starting to get very angry because Olivia was yelling for me to wake up and go play with dolls. My grandmother yells at her that if she don't leave me alone she would kick her out. Now I'm starting to wake up because of the screams. I hear Olivia say that she is not going anywhere if I didn't go out so we can play with dolls. My grandmother's house has a very big front and back yard so Olivia wasn't inside of the house luckily. See i had this doll, I named her Emma and she was my favourite doll. The doll was looking like my best friend since when we were 3, Emma, so i named her after her. The doll was a gift from my godparents as a birthday gift and i had her for about 1 year, from 29th of September, when all this were taking place. Emma was my favourite toy and i would sleep with her eat with her and spend all my day with her. That day i didn't slept with my doll because she was a bit dirty and i had left her in the table in the front yard. So Olivia sees the doll and by the time she sees it i was finally completely awake. She yells, Maria if you don't come to play i will break the doll in peaces. My grandmother is at that point frustrated and before she goes to kick her out of our yard i come out while i was in my underwear to go out and play with her. I would had avoid her but i was afraid of my doll getting smashed. So i came out in my underwear we seat in the front yard we start playing. Better to say she started playing as i wasn't moving and i was covering myself for the people that passing by. Not far away from as was Olivias house. She had forgotten to bring he favourite doll and she wanted me to go with her to get the doll. I refused and stayed on the ground to play with Emma. Olivia didn't liked it so she yeld at my saying again that she would break my doll if i didn't come. My grandmother was inside cooking and she had the door open in case something happed. She unfortunately for me didn't heard Olivia screaming and yelling. I didn't have many choices but to go with Olivia. She grabbed my by my hair and pulled me all the way to her house. In between her house and my house though, is the village's mini market. So in that day many people where buying stuff from the mini market and so many people saw me, being pulled from my hair from Olivia while i was in my underwear. Luckily my uncle saw me. At that moment i was crying of embarrassment and Olivia was telling me to stop being a baby and stop crying. My uncle came, screamed at Olivia to let me go and because my uncle is about 1,90 meters he looked like a moving tree from our eyes. Olivia lets off my hair, runs in her house crying and tells her dad about my uncle. My uncle took off his t-shirt and covered me with his shirt leaving himself without a shirt. He shirt was like a dress for me. He then picked me up and started trying to calm me down and make me stop crying. Olivia had been pulling me with so much strength that some of my hair had been pulled of and i had some bold spots on my head. Olivia came holding her fathers hand and starts pointing at me yelling that i took her doll ( my doll Emma ) and that i had hitted her in the head with a plastic toy hammer that my brother had from a toy fixing kit. My uncle starts yelling at her dad telling him what he saw, yelling that she is lying and sawing him my bold spots. Some other people had also talked seeing my being pulled by Olivia. My grandmother meanwhile was freaking out because i wasn't in our front yard playing. She heard noice coming from the direction of Olivia's house and started walking as fast as she could to find me ( She can't run because she has problems in her legs and back and she is also old ). She saw me in my uncles arms crying and asked my uncle what was going on. I can't describe to you my grandmothers look of anger in her face when she heard what was happening. Her eyes were so filed with anger and hate for Olivia, a kid like me in that age was clearly could think thay she was going to to have smoke coming out of her ears like the cartoons. She started yelling what happened earlier and oh God i didn't saw Olivia's face when she looked at her father, being out of control and screaming at Olivia for what she had done. I didn't saw her face hearing her father screaming like that at her but i can for sure say she got her ass beaten so hard that she never even come at my house again. I can tell that when she sees me her face goes red and she starts walking the the opposite direction. I will say again, please forgive me for the grammar and vocabulary mistakes. But really, didn't she deserved it?

2023.06.06 12:22 yerederetaliria Our first date

Intro:https://www.reddit.com/yandere/comments/142b5vq/irl_yandere_couple_experiences/

I don’t know where to begin. I’m leaving out the six months of me stalking and the events that led up to our first date which are interesting. The IRL request was for our interactions. The date was not natural but orchestrated. This is our first "date." The date was setting him up on my behalf. He was under the impression that he was supporting the campus club we had been attending. I had been stalking him for six months and finally asked for some help.
Jenny and John were a couple and engaged to be married after graduation. They were Srs at Colo St Uni and they were leaders in IVCF, the large campus club Finnian and I attended. They were in charge of parties/activities and they had, with the help of other campuses, organized a St Valentine's Day dance. Jenny was an Education major who liked to play matchmaker and John was a Music major who played DJ in his spare time. Jenny and I were friends, not close, but she was more than willing to help me connect with Finnian. She didn't know I was his stalker and obsessed with him but she found out as our relationship progressed. She and I actually sat down, chatted and put together a plan. John and Finnian were casual friends because he and John shared music interests, specifically classical music. They would chat about all kinds of music. He had lunch with John one day and Jenny tagged along and turned the lunch into an interview and made Finnian promise to attend the dance. Finnian’s wingman, Brad bailed on him at the last moment. We all attended Colo St Uni, Fort Collins, and the dance was held at UNColo, Greeley. The group was carpooling and we met at a central parking lot on campus. Finnian volunteered to drive but Jenny insisted he was to ride with her and John. I had no car and was waiting in their backseat, this was a kind of double date. I believe in “Love at first sight” and “Divine appointments” and I feel we experienced both.
I remember waiting such a long time for Finnian to show and when Jenny saw him she signaled him and I felt my heart would climb out of my chest. I remember that he and Jenny bickered over the fact that he could drive people and she essentially pushed him into the back seat of their Honda Civic. After he sat down he said something to John in the driver's seat who remained silent. I leaned into Finnian and introduced myself. I was very assertive and scooted close to him, extending my hand to shake his and I awkwardly didn't let go of his hand. Finnian remembers that he felt backed up against the door and he was irritated at Brad, Jenny, John, the car, everything but as I leaned in I certainly gave him that uncanny stare because he forgot all about being irritated. He felt confused more than anything. He also remembers shifting me back so he could sit properly and that I just came forward again. So there we were in the back seat of a car on the way to Greeley with a half hour to kill. I was wearing a black Bohemian style dress with lace sleeves fitted at the top. He remembers that I wore amber jewelry because the jewelry accented my eyes which are green with an orange ring and my darker hair and dress made them glimmer. I remember he was nicely dressed, you know, a sports jacket and white shirt. He had this blue metallic tie on that made his eyes even bluer and hair blonder. I also remember at one point taking his arm and he was so tight and firm. He wasn't huge but he was toned. Like I said we had a 1/2 hr talk on the way to UNColo and the conversation happened immediately. We had too many things in common. In fact I'll talk about the set up to the date and conversation another time. The point is that we disappeared into conversation and barely acknowledged our hosts. Of course I continued to traditionally flirt with him by preening, touching him, leaning into him, complimenting him. Most of this was excitement on my part because I could tell we were meant for each other and in that little half an hour ride I was already confirming ideas in my head that we were going to take this to the next level. Remember, I said long term. I have the habit of elevating our relationship so what was a meeting turned into a date and a date turned into exclusive dating then girlfriend then wife. That ride was fantastic and we had a hard time not talking, both of us. I was absolutely floored that he knew conversational Spanish so we entered into bilingual territory on day one (we are now both bilingual).
Understand that we were not on a formal date and that I was just some woman he had met so when we arrived his assumption was, "thanks for the ride, John, I'll find my way around from here." I intercepted him and took him by his arm, I really wanted to walk into the venue with him. I desperately wanted us to be seen together, this has always been important to me. I still do this “I’m his” behavior. I began to completely monopolize his time. I was already starting to be seen as clingy and possessive and we weren’t officially together. He was tolerant and flattered and confused. Unfortunately, I don't remember why but we separated early on in the evening. I found him at a table chatting with a couple of guys he knew. He remembers that one of them was Eric. Eric had flirted with me months before and I clearly had shown no interest in him. I was already stalking Finnian by the time Eric had shown interest in me. I actually have no memory of it and my roommate Audrey later pointed it out to me. I learned my obsession caused me to actually block out people and events. I do not remember what Finnian was talking about or to who or why or any of that but he remembers me constantly interrupting them asking Finnian to dance. He remembers actually asking me if I needed to practice dance with him and that I reacted sorely. He remembers that I would alternate between sitting very very close to him and far away from Eric and me getting up to ask to dance for the next song. He also said that I started holding his hand and tugging on his wrist to get him to the dance floor. He clearly didn't want to dance but I won out when the music changed a little.
I got him to dance with me and he told me that he'll never forget how thrilled I looked and that we started to dance before getting all the way to the floor. He told me that the uncanny look I sometimes flash is often when I am thrilled. I remember that I turned him so he could only see me and not other dancers and not his little group of friends. This worked because we never saw them again until weeks later. This was 1999 and the music was a mixture of 80s and 90s with a mixture of pop, rock, alternative, Christian and rap. John had obviously influenced the DJ to play for this particular crowd. I remember that Finnian really tuned into the music we danced to and he later admitted that it was a "safe" place for him mentally. I do not intend on making him look like he was stupid or naiive it’s just that he had some bad experiences in the past and he was desperately trying to be “in control.” I was alternately smothering and backing off but from this point on I wouldn't let go until later. Neither one of us are great dancers but I was really turned on by how well we danced together. I loved touching him and he was trying so hard to be a gentleman. I also liked to direct his hands where I wanted them. This was me communicating and almost compulsively touching his hands. He remembered that his wrists were sore after that night which means that I was quite grabby. Some songs I wanted his hands on my waist and a few times I specifically directed him to put his hands on my hips. I wanted him to know that I was interested all around romantically in him. We slowed danced and fast danced for most of the night. The man typically leads while dancing but I would periodically resist going in a direction because I was trying to keep us isolated or uninterrupted from others. I do not remember what we talked about other than the songs playing and what to do while dancing. We were pretty much just being physical. At one point this song was played and I remember he said he liked it. It had a unique theme. This is important because I would use it later in a confession of sorts and it would become one of our songs. We found even more in common like our taste in music which leans towards alternative.
Eventually we both really needed the bathroom and a break so I told him I’d meet him at the punch bowl. He didn’t show and I started frantically searching for him. After a few minutes I saw him outside in a patio garden area. This was a student center. So I followed him outside and he greeted me warmly and he pointed out some stars. We stargazed a little while. He has an interest in astronomy. There were fire pits and somebody was lighting them and we could still hear the music softly. He pointed out the planet Mars and I pretended I couldn’t find it. This was intentional. I wanted him to put his arms around me and point so I could look down his arm and rub up into him. He did that and I responded and when he put his arm down I quickly turned around, pressed into him, stared straight into his eyes. Then I said, “don’t run from me, I love you, I will follow you anywhere under the Milky Way.” Then we leaned into each other and kissed for a very long time. I don’t remember how I actually said the words and neither did he because it was rather dreamlike. He heard what I said and he said the phrase didn’t bother him. The following part didn’t seem serious to him until a week later. I was serious about it. Months later he told me that he made the decision to date me on the patio when he was alone. He thought it through and he felt that there were too many things happening in favor of us. He also told me that the fire from the fire pits made my eyes flash and it was very surreal. We went back inside, slowly danced and found a lonely corner to quietly talk. Eventually, we met Jenny and John near the door and I remember that Finnian was holding my hand. Jenny said that since we are hitting it off so well that tomorrow we can double date and go see an indie band at Avogadro’s Number, a local club. I answered for both of us a little too eagerly. Jenny later told me that he and I were “electric” that night. She also met a friend from UNColo who asked how long we had been dating to which she replied, “first date.” Her friend responded as if Jenny was fibbing. We drove home and we got caught up and started kissing again but we stopped when we heard that Jenny and John noticed. I could barely sleep that night. I was high.

2023.06.06 12:17 Tristan_Lane98 CHERUB: Maximum Security Soundtrack

Here we go again, another long winded and self indulgent analysis of the music used in a screenplay. For anyone who hasn’t seen one of these before, it’s entirely skippable and you can enjoy the screenplay without having read this. Honestly you’d probably enjoy it more without having read this first, spoilers and such below for my Max Sec screenplay as I go song by and explain my thought process and anything else that enters my mind such as what songs used to be there instead of what ended up actually there.
“California Dreamin’” by The Mamas and The Papas:
Initially in the first draft this was a placeholder, people may have noticed a trend that the first song and title song usually represent the general overarching theme of the film, not just the specific moment they are featured like most others used do. For a significant amount of time this film was actually set around Christmas time, it was going to be late November into December, however this didn’t work with the timeline for Basic Training and Lauren’s story, so seeing as I wasn’t going to put that off to the next film it had to take place in March the next year. This messed up two things, firstly the song which had initially replaced the placeholder (which was going to be a Christmas song as a sort of connection to the snow, the time setting and the ironic jolly Christmas time being entirely incongruent with the awful prison environment) and secondly the day each event takes place on, which matters more later. I went back to California Dreamin when “The Great Date Shift” occurred for two reasons, I preferred the overarching connection of the song itself, given the song is about homesickness (something Lauren would be experiencing) and specifically mentions California where unbeknownst to them would be where the climax takes place and it is a Classic American song which I was trying to use more of in this screenplay in particular due to it being the one big truly American adventure we get. Additionally I quite liked the way I wove the song into the scene diegetically as we don’t have radios or such so having to use another new way of getting music into the scene with Lauren’s delirium which is a real phenomenon as described by an ice climber who fell down a glacier and ended up stuck for days in the cold, having Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl” playing round and round in his head despite the fact he hated it, so I just changed the specific song and came up with a reason for where Lauren would have heard it from. Of course because this took me 18 months to finish annoyingly another series of Stranger Things came out and then played a cover of this by The Beach Boys in that, making it (I think) the third time they’ve beaten me to using a song, so the score is 3-1 between me and them if we’re counting lol.
“Jailbreak” by AC/DC:
The title song for this one, as mentioned before links to the overarching plot concerning the jailbreak itself and also introduces AC/DC as another band to become a regular addition to future soundtracks. This is a lesser-known AC/DC track from their early days that I just really liked the sound of and thought was a funny coincidence that they could be introduced here with this and that it has the exact same name as the originally intended and then used later “Jailbreak” by Thin Lizzy was just another part of the charm behind using it.
“Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting” by Elton John:
A really punchy song and another Classic British Artist, this is one I’d long had the idea of using in this specific scene, just like using “Radar Love” by Golden Earring for the Mustang drive in Class A, this was essentially a set point that I was definitely going to use and the whole rest of the film was built around it. Of course, when “The Great Date Shift” occurred it meant the scene itself went from being a Saturday to no longer being a Saturday and there wasn’t any way to move the scene to a Saturday while keeping the internal logic of the Basic Training dates with the pre-established rules of when they happen from previous films. So I’m stuck with a deeply unsatisfying day for this to happen on, oh well!
“Cold As Ice” by Foreigner:
Another late change, as it was originally going to be “Snowbound” by Genesis however I have a rule not to use the same band twice in a film and I wanted to use Genesis for the last song so it had to change. Not too much to be said about the choice here, I wanted something that fit and wouldn’t be too obscure that would connect to the end of Basic Training.
“Learn To Fly” by Foo Fighters:
Trying to include some music taste for Lauren now in contrast to James, the music that she would be into would be more contemporary so I decided to go for a popular contemporary band and this was what I found that best fit the scene itself. I don’t know too much about this band, from what I understand they connect to Nirvana which was previously featured in Class A, so the inclusion also felt like a nod to that.
“Highway Star” by Deep Purple:
Very early on this was selected to be in here as part of my choice to use “American songs” as much as possible, but this has deeper significance, as the band Deep Purple are actually English and this song was specifically written by them to try and pretend to be American and have an “American Sound” which was very popular at the time. It seemed fitting given what the plot of the film is. This kickass Rock song about driving as fast as possible would fit anywhere in the various different car chases used but seemed most appropriate here.
“Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd:
Whenever this song is featured people always seem to focus on the solo, which is of course understandable because it is the particularly stand out moment not just of this song but probably of the whole discography of the band, however I felt like seeing as this solo was used to great effect in Kingsman I wouldn’t simply imitate that (even though this film would technically take place before that and I have thought about the concept of it being used as fast paced music for fighting previous to that film) I decided to let Kingsman have their distinctive moment, which remains one of my favourite moments of modern cinema, and instead use the slower introduction part, which could be used for the journey to the prison itself, playing more on the lyrics about wanting to be free and contrasting that with James and Dave being sent into prison.
“Basket Case” by Green Day:
Wanting to use American music as much as possible, especially for the character introduction of Curtis, and a great opportunity to try and get more Punk Rock into the soundtrack, although this is technically “Nu Punk” or something I think, it’s not like The Clash which is what I consider to be actual Punk Rock, although the distinction is fairly meaningless and elitist, I decided to use this song for Curtis’ character introduction. Initially this was going to be “American Idiot” during early planning however that song didn’t yet exist at the time when this film would have been made so I had to select an earlier song and actually I think that “Basket Case” fits Curtis better anyway, so another happy accident.
“I Want To Break Free” by Queen:
You can’t have James listening to just any old rubbish so he goes out of his way to try and find some decent music while inside prison, and this was an obvious choice even if the song itself isn’t written about literally trying to break out of a prison the connection seems like something that all ages of audience could notice and enjoy, it’s important to me that not every song is some lofty, intellectual, obscure connection in order to maintain some of the light hearted fun, which is the point of having the music there in the first place. It should add something to the scene, comedy or action or whatever it might be, and hopefully all these songs add something to the scene.
“Jailhouse Rock” by Elvis Presley:
Truly a classic of the Rock and Roll genre, you couldn’t do a list of American Rock songs and not include something by ‘The King’ so I chose to use his famous “Jailhouse Rock” to connect to the newly introduced prison riot scene, ‘Rock’ throughout the series is something of a metaphor (or perhaps that isn’t the right word, harbinger? Innuendo?) for ‘fight’ and this is made abundantly clear here. I quite liked the juxtaposition of the bouncy upbeat 50s song with the graphic violence of the fight scene and hopefully my little inclusion of a new plot element was a fitting accompaniment to this piece of American Rock legend.
“Jailbreak” by Thin Lizzy:
Used as the second jailbreak song, this time specifically as they are breaking out, an upbeat song with distinctive opening, and catchy chorus, the song that I think best fits my homage to the film Vanishing Point and the closest that the CHERUB series would get to a chase movie feel. A bit on the nose but very fun and so it had to be included.
“Hotel California” by Eagles:
When you are making a list of Classic American Rock songs and setting the film’s ending in California then you really have to use “Hotel California” so I couldn’t resist. Not just because it is a classic though, the song has been said to have probably a hundred different meanings by the band and that there is no one true correct way of interpreting it, even though they always wrote songs critical of the Music industry this was written to be generally more critical of the American Dream as a whole, some may see the Hotel California, with all it’s strange goings on, as a reference to “The Overlook Hotel” which would be a connection with “The Shining” another film reference for this screenplay and a connection to Stephen King who wrote “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption” which has many different references, not just that this is about escaping prison but the use of Tim Robbins as Scott and that Jackson is reading Stephen King’s “Different Seasons” in which the short story originally appeared. However ‘the Hotel’ in California could also be the Ranch itself where they stay being literally a dangerous place where it initially seems welcoming but the intention is that James and Lauren “can never leave” as the song suggests.
“Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress)” by The Hollies:
Despite what people might think this is far from a simple nod to Jane herself, the song being used as a character introduction has some other layers in there, Jane actually being British by birth originally fits with The Hollies being a British band, they wrote the song to try to achieve an American sound, pretending to be American if you will, and of course the song itself being told from the perspective of an FBI agent working undercover meant it fit so well that it had to be used here. Furthermore it foreshadows James falling for Jane’s superficial charm, just as the character in the song, falls for the ‘Long Cool Woman’ which adds another layer to it I think.
“Enter Sandman” by Metallica:
This Classic Heavy Metal song is used for the pounding forwards momentum that is building suspense under the scene and the dark foreboding feel it can generate, this song was written to be something of a ‘dark lullaby’ hence the inclusion of the “hush little baby” line, which uses a children’s lullaby and in this song was originally intended to reference children dying, which is foreshadowing of Jane’s plan, the shots used in the film further contain references to the music video of this song.
“Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses:
Probably the best Rock song to use as a fight scene song, specifically the solo being one of the best guitar solos of all time, this American Classic had to be used somewhere and where better than the fight scene right at the climax of this film? The band will no doubt make more appearances throughout the remaining films.
“Morning Has Broken” by Cat Stevens:
If the use of “Enter Sandman” by Metallica is the dark lullaby then this is the opposite, the song is based on a children’s hymn and was written by a children’s author with the specific aim to make something that children would be able to use with simple structure, it was adapted by Cat Stevens into the song used here, to literally reference the dawning of a new day but also them having got through the danger and made it out the other side to safety. Rick Wakeman actually wrote and played the famous piano introduction for the song and wasn’t credited or paid for it during the original release and so I suppose we can also consider this an introduction of Rick Wakeman into the series as I’m sure he will be popping up in later films.
“Get This Party Started” by P!nk:
Just needed something contemporary and pop based and upbeat to use as a canteen song, there isn’t really anything intended to be much deeper here, this is just background filler music for the canteen and people are talking over much of it anyway. Potentially there could be some meaning there but I’m not aware of it if there is, the kids are partying, maybe that’s enough once in a while.
“Turn It On Again” by Genesis:
For the final song of this film I wanted it to be something British and a powerful optimistic Rock song, so now seemed like the perfect time to use this, of course meta-textually it references it being the end of the film and urging people to ‘turn it on again’ perhaps? But generally I just really liked this song personally, wanted to include it at some point and this is where I thought made the most sense to.
